This offense was modified from John Kreese "Attacking Zone Defenses" book. It is a modification of Kresse's BC offense. It is not that complicated. I ran it with 6th grade boys and continue to run it with high school players. A problem I encountered was players would almost always try to force the inside pass right away and create a turnover. To correct this I reverse the ball one time before allowing an inside pass.

My main reason for using this offense is to confuse the inside defense and to get easy inside shots while opening up two outside shooters.

This play will also work with a M2M defense.

The basic set is a 1-3-1.
1 is point.
2 is wing, but make sure he is low enough to draw the bottom defender on the zone. I tell 2 to set up on just below the middle mark on the lane extended. I do not ever have this player in the corner.

If 2 is left unguarded he must be able to shoot the 3. I give him the green light to shoot on the entry pass if he is not guarded. 2 should be your best shooter. This keeps the defense honest and makes the whole offense work. If your players can't shoot the 3 have them step in to their range and start moving back once the defense begins to defend them.

3 initially sets up on the weak side wing 2-3 steps off the lane and splitting the top and bottom defenders.

4 sets up at the high post in the free throw circle near the 3 point line.

5 sets up in the short corner.

It is important in this offense that all passes be straight in passes. We do not allow any angle passes across the defense because they are easy to deflect and steal. This also will assist with spreading the defense because the top defender is usually responsible for the top player with the ball.

Any pass to a post position freezes the continuity and we play power triangles. Once the ball is passed back to the perometer the continuity continues from that point.

2

1 dribbles to the wing and pass to 2.

2 sets up mid-lane extended to force the bottom defender to come out to guard him.

3

5 screens the middle defender (1-3-1, 2-3, 2-1-2, 1-1-3, 1-2-1-1) or the bottom defender opposite side (1-2-2, 2-2-1, 3-2) if no middle defender.

2 looks for the three point shot if the bottom defender does not come out to guard him.

3 rubs off of 5's screen, steps up in the lane and moves to the short corner.

5 turns to the ball and flashes to the high post.

4 moves behind the defense to the opposite block looking for the lob as 2 catches the ball.

1 moves to a spot up shooting position.

4

2 looks for 3 coming off of 5's screen.

2 looks to 5 in the lane coming off the screen.

2 looks for the lob pass to 4.

5

2 pass to 1.

5 screens middle defender and rolls to block.

4 comes off of 5's screen to high post. (4 & 5 exchange positions). 4 reads the defense and steps around the defender to the ball and seals the defender in the lane if possible.

The inside action is to confuse the defense, but be alert for scoring opportunities if they arise.

2 cuts through the lane to other wing. 2 must not go between the ball and the post players

3 X=s (crosses) out high for the next pass.

6

1 gets the pass and control dribbles to the center of the court. 1 is watching the inside action for an opportunity score and if someone is wide open he will pass the ball inside. This only happens occasionally but we sometimes score with it. 1 will pass to 3 when 3 gets into position.

3 and 2 must occupy the top defenders and they set up as far out as the defnses pushes them.

7

Reversal

1 pass to 3.

4 drops to block.

8

3 pass to 2.

5 screen the middle defender.
4 rubs off of 5's screen to block.
5 turns to the ball and flashes to the high post.
3 moves behind the defense to the block..
1 replaces 3.

9

2 looks for 4 coming off of 5's screen.

2 looks to 5 in the lane coming off the screen.

2 looks for the lob pass to 3.

10

2 pass to 1.

11

1 dribbles to the middle of the floor.

5 screens middle defender and rolls to block.

3 comes off of 5's screen to high post. (3 & 5 exchange positions). 3 reads the defense and steps around the defender to the ball and seals the defender in the lane if possible.

2 cuts through the lane to other wing. 2 must not go between the ball and the post players

4 X=s (crosses) out high for the next pass.

12

Continue the continuity.
